MATCH PREVIEW | Reserves conclude first half of season this Saturday
Saturday afternoon sees Leeds Rhinos Reserves head across to Sewell Group Craven Park as Chev Walker's side complete the first half of their season against Hull KR, kick off 1pm.
In a change from previous Reserve League seasons, the 2026 competition is split into three stages to keep games competitive and offer more opportunities for players to feature for their clubs. After 11 confirmed fixtures in the first part of 2026, teams ranking in the top six of the league table will progress into the second section where they will play each other once to decide the top four semi finalists.
Now at the end of the first 11 fixtures, the Rhinos rank second in the table and have confirmed their place in the top six as Walker's side aim to retain their Grand Final crown from 2025. After suffering two defeats and a draw in their first four matches of the campaign, Leeds have turned their form around with a run of six consecutive wins - the latest being a 40-4 triumph over St Helens last weekend in front of an AMT Headingley crowd. Two Riley Lumb tries took the winger to 12 tries in his last six games for the Reserves (part of a 17-try season overall for Lumb), whilst Marcus Qareqare and Ned McCormack's tries also extended scoring records for the outside backs in what have been standout games.
The Rhinos have joined Wigan, Wakefield and Warrington in confirming their places as four out of the six teams in the top half of the table, but places are still at stake as Hull FC, Castleford, Hull KR and Bradford Bulls could all mathematically force their way into either fifth of sixth place. The losing teams are consigned to playing the bottom six sides down the final stretch of the season with no silverware on offer.
As one of the sides battling to avoid playing in the bottom six, Hull KR need to beat the Rhinos and hope results go their way elsewhere to get themselves in the top spots.
Despite losing their first three fixtures against Warrington, London and Hull FC, much like the Rhinos, the side has rallied down the back stretch of the season so far to climb the table. Winning 22-4 against St Helens at the end of March, the result helped the side to a run of three consecutive wins over Huddersfield and Leigh, before a defeat to Castleford was followed by an important win over Wakefield as the Robins claimed their first major scalp of the year.
Recent meetings against Wigan and Bradford have both ended in defeat, but still the club have an outside chance of climbing above neighbouring Hull FC and the Tigers, who face each other this weekend.
